Sorry, camera angle was a little low on this one but the race was pretty cool and got very dark at the end. The eye is more light sensitive than the camera but in the last 10 laps, you couldn't see anything 3 bike lengths forward at 30 mph. Fun stuff.
0:00 - 8:30 > Watch how much road the group is using 8:30 > Moto Ref can't get past riders on left 10:50 > Moto Ref stops race to set us straight 13:30 > Climb 1 22:20 > Feed zone climb 1 31:00 > Some attacks start, race strings out 34:47 > Mike G, R Muio go off front, chase but gap doesn't close 35:42 - 37:40 > Solo bridge 38:00 - 72:00 > Break of 4 73:50 > Catch and simultaneous attack at top of first climb 74:00 > Gapped cresting climb - chased through feed zone climb and into next lap but no dice.
This video doesn't need much commentary. It is 6 minutes long. That's how long it took for the top 10 guys to come across the finish line. I looked around at the start and I would guess we had 60 starters. That's some major attrition.
The purpose of this blog is to present cycling video and stay away from individual race reporting and commentary. The camera goes where it goes and sometimes you get to see interesting things that go on in races. I'll post the helmet cam video of the race tomorrow. The camera bridged into a 4-man break on lap 2 for a lap and a half. There is good video of the surges and attacks before the break got away; the solo bridge; the break itself; and the catch - where Jose, Chuck and others flew by us on the top of the first climb like they were shot out of a gun.
Here is the video of the finish yesterday. Congrats to Chuck Hutcheson and Nate Wilson. It was a fitting result to see two guys who are having arguably the best seasons put together by any two riders around here going wheel to wheel in an uphill sprint in an epic race for a championship jersey.
This is the home blog for videos, news information on the cycling racing helmet cam videos originating in the MABRA (Mid-Atlantic Bicycle Racing Association) region. The purpose of BCM (Breakaway Cycling Media) is to promote the sport of cycling by taking racers and fans inside the race - to experience the speed, excitement, tactics and thrill of racing a bike.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to tell me they enjoy the videos. It's been fun to do. We have more and expanded plans in the works.
Here are a few teasers:
We plan to do a cyclocross cam this season. First I have to buy a cross bike and learn how to ride it!
We are looking at new camera technology. Check links above for information soon. Suffice it to say that there are now cameras that can be mounted to a helmet / bike that shoot full 1920 x 1080 HD video. Unbelievable.
We are going to be looking at expanding the project. That means more cameras on more racers in more categories. Watch for updates and info coming soon.
